About Palmdale
Built on small-town values and a family-oriented community, Palmdale is located in Northern Los Angeles County. While enjoying all of the conveniences provided by its rapidly expanding commercial and retail industries, Palmdale has consistently been ranked in the top 25 fastest growing cities in the United States (based on percentage change) over the last 25 years. As of the 2010 census, the population was 152,750, the sixth most populous in Los Angeles County.
The most important industry for Palmdale is the aerospace industry. Nicknamed the “aerospace capital of the United States”, and has been the site of research, development, final assembly, flight testing and/or servicing/modifications of the Space Shuttle, B-1, B-2 Spirit, F-117 Nighthawk, F-35 Lightning II, SR-71 Blackbird, However, in recent times, other world-class corporations and manufacturing firms have relocated to Palmdale seeking more affordable land, proximity to Palmdale Airport, and economic incentives.
Schools
Palmdale has some great public schools. The Palmdale School District is one of the largest elementary school districts in the nation consisting of 29 schools with about 28,000 students covering kindergarten through 8th grade students. The Palmdale Aerospace Academy is a joint venture between the city of Palmdale, the AERO Institute, and the Palmdale School District. For More Info: www.greatschools.org.
Dining and Shopping
West Palmdale is home to the Antelope Valley Mall and Restaurant Row. In the past few years Trader Joe’s, Barnes and Noble, Best Buy and many well-known chain restaurants and fast casual eateries have opened up shop in the area, but lately the East Side of Palmdale has been growing and developed into a showcase for large shopping.
47th East, dubbed the “Miracle Mile” by Palmdale Mayor Jim Leadford, has been a magnet for new home builders and retail development. From Super Target to Super Wal-Mart there are shops easily accessible at the north end and south end of 47th East.
Entertainment
Enjoy golf at one of our championship courses.
There are many family friendly things to do in Palmdale. Practice your swing at Mulligan Family Fun Center where they have batting cages, laser tag, go-karts, mini-golf & a rock wall and obstacle course. If the performing arts is more your speed, the Palmdale Playhouse is an amazing place to see musicals and plays, and during the warmer summer nights Palmdale Parks offers Summer Concert Series at the Palmdale Amphitheater.
Six Flags Magic Mountain is just 45 minutes away; Universal Studios is less than an hour. Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm and the beach are only 90 minutes away.
Parks and Recreation
Palmdale and the surrounding communities offer so many things to do and see! Get wet at DryTown Water Park (open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend).
Visit the California Poppy Preserve, tour a real live ghost town Calico Ghost Town or get up close and personal with Tigers and other exotic animals at Shambala Preserve
Commute
This is a community where many people commute? The average commute time during non-peak hours to Los Angeles is 90 minutes and to Santa Clarita 45 minutes, During Peak time however the commute time can double to triple. Not Interested in Driving there are other options.Metrolink or RideShare are great alternatives and widely used by those in Palmdale.
