About Saugus
A neighborhood in Santa Clarita, Saugus was one of four communities (along with Valencia, Newhall, and Canyon Country) that merged in 1987, to create the city of Santa Clarita. Schools
Newhall has some of best private and public schools in the area. In 2016 14 Saugus Union School District Schools were approved as gold ribbon schools. According to the California Department of Education, the Gold Ribbon Schools Award Program “recognizes California schools who have made exceptional gains in implementing the academic content and performance standards adopted by the state Board of Education.” Most are 8 and above according to www.greatschools.org and getting better.
Dining and Shopping
Trader Joes, Best Buy, and a plethora of new hip eateries have new established roots in Saugus and Copper Hill area and are worth seeking out. Central to Saugus Dining and Shopping is the Valencia Town Center Mall located a few miles from Saugus in the city of Valencia. Even more great restaurants are part of the mall and surrounding area. There is something for even the difficult palates.
On certain days of the week and weekends, the Saugus Swapmeet offers a plethora of shopping opportunities for every budget. Located on the grounds of the former Saugus Speedway, this shopping experience is a quintessential So. Cal experience.
Nearby is Old Town Newhall. Old Town Newhall is an eclectic shopping, dining and entertainment destination that mixes the rustic charm with cosmopolitan appeal. With boutique shopping, fine and casual dining, and Old West heritage, Old Town Newhall is the place to shop, gather with friends and family, and enjoy a day or night out on the town.
Entertainment
Home to Six Flags Magic Mountain, an amusement park, Valencia. With 19 roller coasters, Six Flags Magic Mountain holds the world record for most roller coasters in an amusement park. In 2015, the park had an estimated 3.1 million visitors ranking it eighteenth in attendance in North America.
Parks and Recreation
Placerita Canyon Natural Area is a 350-acre wildlife sanctuary located at the Western end of the San Gabriel Mountains in Southern California’s Santa Clarita Valley.
Commute
This is a community where many people commute? Most take Interstate 5 and Hwy 14 freeways? The main routes to the freeways are Copper Hill and Newhall Ranch Golden Valley.
